The ETC Forums 1st Official Magic The Gathering Tournament!
#1
Posted 27 March 2009 - 12:34 PM
I plan on holding a Magic: The Gathering tournament online, based ETC's Tournament maker and The "Magic Workstation" application for your home computer. Unfortunatley, I do not know the steps required to acquire Magic Workstation (I got it a long time ago, and cannot recall those steps), however if there is a member who would be willing to Private Message me those directions with Print Screens to show the processes, it'd be greatly appreciated and a reward would be given. First come, first serve on the reward, and only if the process is accurate.
Now for the tournament- I'm going to be giving out the reward (Yes, me, DjJoe. If you see below, there's $70 or so in prizes at the moment. Could be more. Donations welcome, Private Message me for suggestions or Ideas). Yes, there is a reward for the top 4. To break it down, here's the prize set-up:
1st Place: 1 "Fat Pack" of the newest Magic:The Gathering Set (Alara Reborn), and 1 draft set of Shards of Alara (1 Shards of Alara, 1 Conflux, and 1 Alara Reborn)
2nd place: 2 Drafts sets of Shards of Alara (2 Shards of Alara, 2 Conflux, 2 Alara Reborn)
3rd Place: 1 Draft set of Shards of Alara (1 Shards of Alara, 1 Conflux, and 1 Alara Reborn)
4th Place: 1 Booster Pack from the Shards of Alara Block (Shards of Alara, Conflux, or Alara Reborn)
Now here's the important part. I'm not going to go out of my way to provide for these. Meaning, if there's 8 people only, the prizes will be severly cut. If there's an outstanding turnout, there might be more. As a minimum for the above Prize Bracket, I want at least 24 participants. The minimum to get the tournament started is 8 people, and the max is...well let's get a big number first and then I'll worry about cutting people.
The format will be simple: Standard Type 2 Constructed. You need to build a deck of at least 60 cards with a 15 card sideboard, and decklists WILL NEED TO BE SUBMITTED prior to the tournament beginning. Cards from the following sets are available for play:
-Lorwyn
-Morningtide
-Shadowmoor
-Eventide
-Shards of Alara
-Conflux
-Alara Reborn
-10th Edition
The tournament is set to begin on or around June 25th (So you all can get out of school), so get ready! Anyone who is interested please join the following Social Group:

Registration will begin in Mid-May or earlier depending on support! More details to follow as players come in. Invite your friends! Promote our Forum! All players must be active members of the ETC forums to participate!
**Any Suggestions, Comments, or other words of wisdoms are more than welcome! Feel free to Private Message me or leave a post here with anything you may have. Yes, if the support for it is great, we can hold other tournaments or change this one to other formats, including:

-Extended
-Legacy
-Vintage
-Elder Dragon Highlander

No, slivers were last seen in the TimeSpiral/PlanarChaos/FutureSight block. Unless they release a slew of them in Alara Reborn, they will not be legal.
Technicallity: Yes, you can use the Changelings from Lorwyns, as they are considered Slivers.

What two months? We'd start the registration in May and begin at the end of June...

Would I be able to pick it up well enough and be able to compete well by then? (In your opinion)
If I respond on your list, please do me the favor and respond on my list, or PM me, I can't keep track of everyone's list that I post on. Thanks.

Yes, in fact it is VERY easy to jump in at any time and play. MUCH easier than Yugioh by comparison. When you go to your local card store or gaming store, ask about "Friday Night Magic" (or "FNM" for short) or any other Magic Related events you can watch or jump into. There is also a Pre-release and Release events for "Alara Reborn" at the end of April.
No, no fees. This is purely from me.The only thing you'd need to give is your time.
If you have directions in downloading both, please let me know. By the time the tournament starts, I'd rather everyone be on a cooperating page.

I'm gone for the entirety of April and May. I should be back on ETC by the middle of June.
If I can technically sign up now, then that's what I'm doing and I can have the deck to you a few days before it starts.
If not, then I'm cool with that too.

Type 1 is just too hectic for a forum opener. If this goes well, there will be more and Type 1 is an option. But for now, might as well keep it simple with cards that are easily attainable and leaving it to a limited card pool of just under 1000.

I quit after Ravnica was cycled out of T2 because I exhausted all of my resources to build Ghazi-Glare so I could dominate for a few months, but once the deck was illegal I didn't feel like starting the process over.
