Welcome to ETC Mafia: Reborn! As this thread's name suggest, this is where sign-ups for the next ETC Mafia game will take place. At the moment, anyone is free to sign up until we have enough people and/or enough time has passed. However, after seeing the results of the last mafia game, I think it is wise for you all not to go in without knowing what to expect, so I have laid out all of the basic rules of the game below. They are a little bit different from previous mafia games (they are derived from mafiascum), so I highly recommend that you read EVERYTHING below before you play.
Rules
Roles:
This is the most fundamental aspect of all mafia games. Once the game begins, you will immediately receive a PM stating your role in the game. This includes your character name/background, night and/or day power, alliance, and win condition. To give you an idea, here is a sample role PM someone might receive during the beginning of the game:
You are: [Role Name]
[Biography of your role character is contained in this first paragraph, mostly for flavor purposes.]
During the [Day/Night], you may PM me with Night X - [Power] [User],
You are allied with the [Town/Mafia] You win if the [Town/Mafia] wins.
-OR-
You hold a neutral standing amidst all of the chaos. You win if [Custom win condition].
Role Name: This is the name of your actual character in the game. You will need to remember it well, as it is basically how you will be "identified" in this game.
Power: Many roles in this game have powers that can be used at Night (And some cases during the Day) that can be used on a player. There are several different powers associated with each role and alliance. In the above PM, X is the night number and USER is the player you will target with your power. Below are some examples of commonly used powers in mafia games:
- KILLING: The central power of the mafia, this one is quite simple. It kills the user it targets and removes them from the game.
- INSPECTION: This power allows the user gain more information about the user they target. This may include as little as the person's role name or alliance, to as much as the contents of the entire role PM itself. However, there may be powers that block or interfere with inspection results, so be careful!
- DISTRACTION: When this power is used, the target will be unable to do anything that night, including the use of their power.
- PROTECTION: Prevents the target from being affected by the power of another player, Typically, it prevents the user from being killed at night, though it can also be applied to other powers as well.
- There are several other powers in this game, so you should always be prepared for anything.
- Town: The "good guys". They exist in larger numbers but are more spread out. Their goal is simply to survive at the end of the game by lynching members of the mafia during the day (explained later).
- Mafia: The "bad guys". Their purpose is to kill off the town. They are a minority, but they are able to blend in with the town during daily lynch votes. In certain cases, there may be more than one mafia faction.
- Neutral: They are not allied with anyone else and have their own win condition to fulfill. The two main alliances can use the powers of neutrals to their advantage, or the other way around.
Day / Night Cycle:
Through the course of this game, all actions will be split into intervals called "Day" and "Night"
Night: During this time, players will be able to use their powers via PMing the host (me), if they have any. The mafia will also use their killing powers during the night. This is where the whole Night X - [Power][User] thing comes in!
Day: Results from the previous night powers will be PM'd to the user privately. Meanwhile, the list of players that were killed on the previous night will be disclosed, AS WELL AS PART OF THEIR ROLE PM.
Voting Procedure: Once the results from the previous night are posted, the town will be then given enough time to deliberate on who to vote will be lynched (killed) based on whether they think (or know) if someone else is mafia.
- During the day, you will be allowed to vote by posting VOTE USER in bold.
- Everyone, including the mafia, are allowed to vote, though there may be powers that affect the outcome of the vote.
- Not everyone is required to vote, however, voting pattern is a good way for either faction to identify others, so be careful!
- The player with the most votes is then killed, and as with Night results, parts of their role PM will be revealed.
- First and foremost, you are allowed to say whatever you want to other players about the game. This includes disclosing (and even faking) your role PMs, word for word. However, DO NOT share your information too freely, as there are roles in this game that will punish you for that.
- I am going to mention this, since it was a such a problem last game, but don't be too distrusting either, especially if you are a member of the Town. The strength in the town lies in their numbers, not powers, and they will need to be able to successfully vote off other mafia members in order to win. Thus, they will need to remain unified throughout the entire game. They will need to be cautious, as stated in the rule above, but I also added powers into this game that will help the town determine the identities of the mafia, so lynch votes aren't coming down to random guesses.
- Talk to other people! Your alliance will not win if you try to act alone. Mafia is a team effort, and so it is in your best interest to meet up with other people in your alliance. Again, you should never fully trust anyone right away, but there are ways that you will be able to prove yourself.
- Do not, under any circumstances, talk about the game with anyone if you are dead. When you are dead, you are only allowed to watch, as you can still win if your alliance survives. If you are caught breaking this rule, you will be banned from participating in mafia games ever again.
- Stay organized! Constantly check the main topic every day for updates on the game.
- Don't be a dumbass. Sabotaging the votes or accusing someone without evidence is frowned upon and will make you look like an idiot (You know who I am talking about.) Repeated history of such behavior, as with deadtalking, may bar you from participating in future games.
- GOLDEN RULE: MAFIA IS A COMMITMENT. If you do not have time, don't bother signing up.
