I had to make a difficult decision today.

I have 4 goldfish of various ages: Elderly, adult, teenage, and junevile.

The adult goldfish got sick. Once I saw this I immediate applied medical treatment. Despite my efforts it died in a matter of minutes. It was then I actually looked closely at the others.

The juvenile was still normally, so I moved onto the other two.
The teenage animal had the same symptoms.
The elderly animal was difficult to determine. It could have have the disease, but it was already badly discolored due to its age.

I've seen this condition once before. Last year I witnessed 19 out of 20 goldfish fall victim to it, in less than 24 hours.

Not wanting the disease to spread to healthy fish, I eliminated the sick fish. (Death by toilet.)

I love animals, but it broke my heart to bury my pets. Did I do the right thing?

Bowls are inhumane, not to mention these guys were way too big.

Not to mention I'm totally poor. :-(

Motion to hijack?

Seriously though, I'd have just gone with a 2nd tank/whatever instead of well, committing murder.

Living in a bowl is less humane than dying in a sewer or septic tank?

Yeah, if this comes down to a debate between location & water quality, I'm preeeeeeettty sure the latter wins.

Once I was sure it was dead, I did. But seeing the fish cannibalize each kinda freaked me out. I'll admit, I might of jumped the gun on this one.

Are we applying this to just fish? If not, I have something you may be interested in if you give me 10 minutes or so...

You did the right thing. As a fish/cat person (go figure huh), you did what shouldve been done on a poor person's budget. Though I sympathize for your lose. If that means anything to you.

Thank you, DZ. I appreciate your kind words. It wasn't an easy choice to make after caring for them over a year.

Sorry to hear your Magikarps died off before they evolved. If they were Gyarados' already, they probably could have weathered the disease.
