1) Can Koa'ki Meiru Guardian use its own effect to negate the effect of Reptilianne Naga that reduces the attack of a monster to 0? I'm wondering since Naga creates a lingering effect that activates even if she leaves the field.

2) If opponent sets a face-down Spell/Trap and activates Zombie World, can I chain Offering to the Snake Deity to destroy my Reptilianne Guardna and destroy it before it resolves? Also, does the Reptile monster I destroy with OttSD have to be face-up?

3) I was told a while back that the effect of Ultimate Baseball Kid which sends a FIRE monster to the graveyard to inflict 500 damage is treated as tributing said monster. If that's the case, can I still use Gift of the Martyr to send Level Eater to the Graveyard to power up my Cyber Dragon?

4) Does Dark Ruler Ha Des negate the effect of an Amazoness Swords Woman it attacks?

1) Well, just because an effect has a lingering condition, it doesn't mean you can't negate it. The effect of Blackwing -- Gale the Whirlwind also has a lingering attack reduction effect--but can be negated. Similarly, Reptilianne Naga's effect is one that can activate, and is therefore one that can be negated by the effect of Koa'ki Meiru Guardian.

2) a) Sure you can. When the opponent activates Zombie World, it has not yet resolved, so you may chain any number of cards to Zombie World--and, because of game mechanics, those cards would resolve before Zombie World does, and would not apply the effect of zombie world.
b) Offering to the Snake Deity targets one reptile monster you control. If said monster is not face-up, the game state does not recognize it as a reptile and you cannot target it. Therefore, I'd have to say no, you cannot use a face-down reptile for the effect of Offering to the Snake Deity. If it said "tribute" one reptile monster you control, I'd be inclined to differ on that point.

3) The effect of Ultimate Baseball Kid is not one that involves tributing. "Send to the graveyard" and "Tribute" are not the same action, though their ends are typically similar (both normally send cards from the field to the graveyard). That being said, of course you can send Level Eater to the Graveyard to pay the cost of Gift of the Martyr--Gift of the Martyr does not involve tributing, and Level eater's restriction only involves tributing.

4) And, for this question, a la netrep.net :

In response to your answer for my first question, when would Ko'aki Meiru Guardian's effect activate to negate and destroy Reptilianne Naga? At the end of the Battle Phase?

1) Even though Reptilianne Naga's ATK setting effect is triggered at the end of the "During Damage Calculation" window, it makes the most sense to me for her effect not to activate until later on when the end of the battle phase (the Battle Phase's End Step) arrives. Much like with a Gladiator Beast monster, that's when you'd need to activate & resolve the effect of Koa'Ki Meiru Guardian to negate it, meaning that he's gotta be face-up in your control at that time.

Now as far as where Reptilianne Naga is allowed to be during the end of the battle phase in order to her effect, the best I can offer right now is my speculation that she works like Miracle Flipper & Interplanetary Invader "A", (minus of course the Invader's strange double activation). By this I mean that while she does not need to remain face-up on the field in order to activate her effect, she will not activate her effect if she's returned to the Hand or Deck. My reasoning for those cards work the way they do is because unlike effects that activate during the damage step, their activation is done at a much later time, thus losing their need or ability to activate when moved to a non-public location.

3) When it comes to tributing a monster in our control for a cost, we're allowed to break general rule of thumb by tributing face-down monsters unless the card's text or rulings specify otherwise. However, when it comes to cards that "send a card to the graveyard", its important to remember that no such consistently exists when it comes to being able to send a face-down card. As such, we need to check the card's individual rulings, as half of them say "yes" to sending a face-down, while the other half say "no".


4) Aside from being anal about how...

- Continuous effects like that of Amazoness Swords Woman never technically "resolve", because that would imply that it was entered into a chain, which it isn't. Instead, they are "applied".

- Even effects that claim a chain link are still considered to "resolve" unless their activation is negated, at which time the chain link would "resolve without effect", or the effect within the chain link would "disappear".

- Considering that there is no such card as "Amazoness Swordswoman", one could playfully argue that it shouldn't be applied to "Amazoness Swords Woman", especially since this ruling looks to wrong to begin with.


... The best I can offer in regards why we have ruling (that I still consider to be incorrect btw), comes down to inconsistencies within the Damage Step that Konami has yet to address. As in, while its been my understanding that the general nature of things refer to monsters being "considered to be destroyed by battle" at the conclusion of the "During Damage Calculation" window (see Reflect Bounder & anything that triggers at that time such as Blue Thunder T-45 & Jujitsu Master), a few rulings (such as the one above that I consider to be BKSS), don't see that happening until after battle damage has already been inflicted, thus creating this messy contradictions.
