I have roles written for the standard game and it is all ready to go, but I was almost looking at trying a new format:

seeing as how a football game has an offense and a defense, what if we had 2 factions (o and d) that were complete mirror images of each other?

Each side sent in a kill, each side has a cop, each side has a nurse, etc, etc. The catch is that there is absolutely no roleclaiming and no faction claiming. The exception is that you may claim to be a faction's cop. You have to do your best to figure out who is on your faction and who is not. There is still a day lynch. Only one person will die during a day lynch.

there is no inter-faction communication unless I decide there is a mason role or w/e

roles are written for this as well.

just depends on which the consensus version to play is.

also, there will be a role (for both sides obv) that will send cop results out to multiple people. This will allow you to help building your web of who you can trust.

Honestly, I've never tried Mafia but I read about it on Wikipedia and figure I'd give it a try. If you guys are implementing new rules and such (Me being new to it and all I think it's best I sit this one out till another one comes along).

I was thinking of using this idea. One question: How does a faction send in a Night Kill if they can't communicate? Team Captain?

yeah. one member of a faction will be assigned the "killing" role. This role will be passed down a chain of command if they die.
