ETC MAFIA - GANTZ

Welcome to another installation of the ETC Forums' Mafia Games! This time the theme is the manga, Gantz. Don't worry if you haven't read it, there's no need to know anything about the game. The theme is just to supply roles and create interest in the game. You can sign up in this thread and anybody is free to sign up. This game will be held off-board, and will allow outside communication.

Rules

Basic Mafia Rules

Mafia is a game where you are allied with either the town or the mafia. Your mission in this game is to wipe out all of the other team via votes or powers. You will receive a PM of your role which will contain your character name, powers, and possibly some other things. You win if your team kills all of the opposing team.

Roles

Roles are the most essential part of this game. They provide you with information on your character, powers, and other special abilities. You will each get a role when you get your account on the separate forum. It may be wise to create 'fake roles' in order to trick other players throughout the course of the game. The basic layout for roles looks like this:

Quote

Dear ______,

You are [role name].

[short background of your character for flavor purposes]

During the [day/night] you may PM me with [day/night] X - [power] [user].

You are allied with [Gantz' army/the vampires/the aliens], you win if [Gantz' army/the vampires/the aliens] wins.

Parts of the Role

1. Role Name - This is simply who you are in the game. Other players won't know you by this name but rather by your alias name on the forum.
2. Background - Explains your character, gives story to the game. Often gives support on why users have certain powers.
3. Alliance - Town/Mafia - This will tell you if you are Townie, Alien, or Vampire.
4. Powers - Most characters have different powers that do different things at different times. Your PM will explain what kind of power you have and what it does. The different powers include.

* INSPECTION - This will allow you to get info on the target's role.
* KILLING - Pretty simple, you're killing people.
* DISRUPTION - Can prevent a player's power from being used.
* PROTECTION - The ability to protect you / somebody else from being targetted.
* OTHER - There are a few other types of powers that may or may not be included in the game.

Day/Night Cycle

The game is played in a series of Day and Night cycles. During the day players will vote for who they want to see lynched. The player with the most votes will be killed outright, unless something prevents that from happening.

The Nights in this game are instead called Missions. This goes along with the theme of the game, but still acts the same way. (the missions were always at night anyway). During missions players can PM me their powers and I will carry them out.

Alliances

In typical Mafia games you can be allied to one of two teams, the Townies or the Mafia. However, this is a more complex version of Mafia, so there are more teams. The Townies in this game are Gantz' Army and include the people who have died and fought aliens for Gantz. The Townies in most games have weaker powers and have few killing powers. They must rely on supporting each other and not lynching any other townies to win the game. Add an emoticon into your post to be accepted into the game.

The Mafia in this game consists of two groups. Each of these groups will be significantly smaller than the Townies' size to keep an even playing field. The first Mafia group is the Aliens. The Aliens are what Gantz' army is sent out to kill on missions. Some are strong, some are weak, some are great in number. The Aliens will primarily have powers that kill others, they are not a very supporting group. The Aliens also will not know who any of their other team mates are. This balances out their strong powers.

The second Mafia group is the Vampires. These are mysterious hunters who try to kill Gantz' army, both in and out of their missions. Because of this, some of their powers may be used during either the night or the day. These players will know all of the other members of their team, but their powers are not as strong as the Aliens' powers.

Finally, there may be a Neutral Group, which would have its own power and win condition.

The Gantz Factor
Gantz' army is scored on their performance in the Manga. Once they reach 100 point they may choose a wish. Scoring in a mafia game would make it too difficult, so here's how this is gonna work:

Whenever a group of mafia is eliminated, one 'wish' may be granted. There are three options that you can choose from. The person who gets to choose is the person who is the 'leader' at the time. The leader is decided by character importance. Kei Kurono is the leader at the start, if he dies then it gets passed down. The three 'wishes' to choose from are:

1) Escape the Game - You get to leave the game and not worry about the game again. Your memory will be erased. You'll die, basically.
2) Gain a powerful weapon - You get a new power added to your arsenal.
3) Revive a player - You get to revive a player, WITH their powers. However, they won't have any memory of the time since they died. Because of this, they are unsure of who is good / bad and won't be able to vote for 2 days.

Quick Recap

1. You vote every day, the person with the most votes will die.
2. You have roles that specify your powers.
3. Townies[Gantz' Army] vs Mafia[Aliens] vs Mafia[Vampires] vs Neutral[???]
4. Day / Mission cycle.
5. Once a group of Mafia is taken out, one 'wish' may be granted.
6. To prove that you have read the rules, please include an emoticon in your sign-up post.

Tips/Regulations
1. You can share information with other players as much as you want. This information does not have to be true. You CAN make fake role PMs in order to fool others. Be careful about how much information you choose to disclose, a simple mistake can ruin your chances of victory.
2. Don't be too distrustful. Townies and, to some extent, Aliens will need to find their teammates if they wish to win. The townies need to rally their troops to inform each other of who to vote off each day. Don't be so stiff as to not accept any information, it makes the game dull.
3. Don't just wait for people to talk to you, if you show no incentive to go find teammates then you can easily give away your alliance by your actions.
4. DO NOT keep playing the game on the sidelines if you're dead. This is against the rules and will get you kicked from this mafia game and all my future mafia games, others may choose to do the same as well. That means no telling anybody anything if you're dead. Same goes for if you're not even playing the game but you happen to find out any information. You can't play a middleman / spy if you're not in the game.
5. Be active! Mafia is a commitment and you need to be active everyday. If you're not active for a while at a time then you will be replaced with another person who wants to play, or just killed off altogether.
6. No Screenshots. Period.

Signups
You must be active, that's really the only condition for signup. There will be 19 slots in this game. More people can sign up and I will choose the ones that I think will be the most active. You can sign onto the waiting list after the game is started to replace those who might be inactive.

I like how like every mafia game has a sign up requirement and people still are reluctant to read the rules. lmao

Assuming since I'm a very experienced player and whatnot that I wouldn't be expected to something so silly or obvious to prove I read rules I already know. Wahtevs...

You might want to read about the different factions in the game and the different rules this game has as compared to other games.

maybe.

Alas, poor Yorick.

I did. I just didn't read your summation where the post requirement ended up being hidden. Since I read about the new rules and twists in their own respective sections, I felt it was ok to skip over the summation.

Yeah, I guess I should put it somewhere else too, I just thought I'd put it there for people that were too lazy to read the whole thing but cared enough to at least read the recap.

Alas, poor Yorick.

I did the opposite, haha. I read the whole thing, but was too lazy to read the summation at the end.
