I think the issue is mostly not getting active players, but I may be wrong.

players are all like YO sign me up im active as plum. then go innactive for a few days because they either dont care enough or dont like their role.

Whoever hosts the game, here's an idea I got from one of BP's games.
Make it so that players gain abilities based on his/her posts in the game thread.
