It's all about software. The specs are pretty good, and it looks cool, but I don't care till they show me some games.

Edit: It seems like it'll have Uncharted, Killzone, and Resistance. I'm interested now.

Looks like a load of bull with them using tech demos of PS3 stuff they premade for the promo. Also keeping the HDD and charging more for what is essentially another PSPgo might as well destroy their handheld division.

They're trying to show how easy it is to port PS3 level games to the system. It's a comparison of the power of their new hand-held and what we consider to be one of the most powerful consoles at this time. Aside from digital distribution, how is this anything like the PSPGO? That's like comparing the DSi to the 3DS.

I can guarantee all of you that the higher end next generation consoles will run solely on digital distribution.

The PSPgo failed horribly mainly because it was strictly download only. No one wanted to buy a game unless they were going to more than their moneys worth out of it. Completely ignoring the secondary market because you want to make money is completely ignorant and a good way to make sure you drive off customers to go looking for the next best alternative. The way I see it, Sony seems to think that making one bad decision that did not work the first time means that they immediately have to try it again the next time they put out anything.

Also, just because they can prove they can put PS3 graphics on the PSP2, doesnt mean they can actually make a game that runs that good. Just means that they know how to produce something for good marketing. If they actually had real gameplay from a launch title for the PSP2 playing/playable with PS3 level graphics then it would be a bit more believable that they can do that the PSP2 is capable of running graphics at that high a level.

The PSPGo failed because it was a digital distribution version of an already released hand-held. The device was in competition with it's prior iterations. Devices which did exactly what it did, but with larger libraries and less hassle. It was the right idea at the wrong time. Do you own an iPod? Are you familiar with the Kindle? What about Steam/XBL/PSN? Digital distribution is inevitable. Why not cut out the middle man? It leads to more profit for the companies, and less clutter for the customer.

This is only the first showing of the system. They showed no actual games. The videos they showed didn't matter. The specs they provided did. The screen size and hand-held resolution makes it perfectly possible to create early PS3 quality games. The issue would involve graphical quality, not stability. The processor is the system's strongest edge.

Forgive me if I dont trust Sony's judgment with yet another attempt to cut the secondary market out of their considerations for making a new platform. I dont see people shelling out money on anything they cant get back at least part of their investment on, especially if its a game they expect to lose interest in eventually.

I'd shell out money for a handheld system that has graphics like the PS3

The things I think I won't like are going to be:

1. Digital Distribution - I'm not a huge fan of buying new games because I can't afford
2. Memory - If they're gonna have graphics of the resolution, the size of them will be big, which means you'll either have to shell out more money for a bigger memory stick or only have a couple games at a time (Although with the advances in technology, this might not even be a problem, which is why I put "think")
3. Gimicky touchpad on the back - I know innovation is the new thing these days, and this is personal preference, but I just enjoy playing games with a controller and not with something else
4. Cost - Something tells me this thing will be ridiculously expensive

But I'd love for Sony to prove me wrong

I hear this is going to be 500 bucks. Reason enough not to buy it because I will never buy a handheld that costs more than console.

Where do you hear that? I'm going to guess 300-350.

Lol. Sony says it's going to be affordable so I doubt that's true. If they were to put out a PORTABLE game system starting at 500 dollars, they might as well bow down to the 3DS.

I was going to try and get the 3DS this year but if this is competitive with it as far as price I'm going to have to go with this. Until I see some more as far as games, I'm going with the system I feel I may give me more bang for my buck. The 3DS.

3DS has a reason to be as expensive as it is compared to the rumored prices of the PSP2. Unlike the PSP2, which should not sell for more than 200 bucks for something that isnt using anything actually new, the 3DS is actually trying to incorporate 3D in its hardware in while not completely giving in to the absolutely abhorrent gimmick that 3D has become in all forms of media since its reemergence in movies. I dont personally condone the prices on either the 3DS or PSP2, as both of them are beginning to cost as much as a console while still not giving the actual experience of playing console quality games, but at least the 3DS has a reason to cost me as much as a 360.

Handhelds have never had anywhere close too the same graphics as their current gen counterpart.

If its more than 300, it wont be doing very well.

For a handheld that is nothing more than a hardware update + gimmick additions, 200 is the most it should be.

3DS doesnt get the same gripes on price because they are working in new tech and not forcing their gimmick as the only way to play games on the handheld.

Hardware wise, it is more powerful than the 3DS. If you think it's going to be 200 you're in for a rude awakening. It's to be the same price of the 3DS at the VERY LEAST. 300-350 should be the range we are looking for.

I know right. I'm a hardcore Sony fan but I refuse to pay for a HANDHELD that's more than the consoles especially knowing that every game probably on it I can play on my PS3. You would think they would of learned from the PS3 and the PSP that the most powerful hardware doesn't always win. If it's $350 like I believe it's going to be, they might as hang it up cause Nintendo is going to win with the 3DS and that's what I'm going to be purchasing. The 3DS is going to be just as good of a handheld as far as games and support despite it being not as powerful.
