Hey all,

We've upgraded the forums to the latest version, and with it we're introducing ETC Chat! Check out the screenshot below:


You can access it easily from the navigation menu. Just click on "Chat". You can also start private chats with anyone else in the room.

The system doesn't require Java or any other fancy technology, so there's no loading or clicking "Allow" buttons while trying to get things working.

Do let us know if you have any questions or suggestions about this new feature.

Just a head's up, on the Black/Purple and Save_ETC skins, the text is so light you can't read it without having to highlight it with your cursor. And in Black/Green and ETC Deviant the text is very light

You're right. The chat also should pop out a new window but it is not doing that. I believe the whole theme is broken to the chat.

I suggest using a different theme in the meantime, while we fix the issues with that one.

IP8 default skin also has the same problem with the chatroom.

Well, the chat works in all of the skins for me. I just have to click that little "launch in a new window" icon in order to well, launch it in a new window sometimes, usually if I'm doing so for the 2nd time after being logged in. Older browsers might not get the full bar that says that in text below (I see it on Opera but not on Netscape), but there should still be a little button that looks like 2 windows to click. It's on the far right side, and there should be 3 of them. A window button, a bell button, and a "leave" button. Click the far left window button.

As far as why the text shows up invisible or otherwise hard to read for some (aka the darker skins), my guess would be that it has to do with the chat function using some of the same colour preffs that the skin uses, which are designed to be shown on a dark bg (what the skin normally uses), oppose to a light bg (what the chat uses). I'm gonna try some stuff on the purple skin to make sure, but I don't think there's anything specifically wrong with it, at least not in terms of the colours.

Colors on the Black/Purple skin have been fixed. That is to say, you can actually read what people say. The colors might change again in order to make it more pretty though.

I get on the chat like 5 times a day, people come on, and leave instantly...as if I fend people away.
