So you guys know about the system, what features it has, and what's coming to it. Here's a link for those who don't know already: http://www.nintendo.com/3ds

I'm gonna get my black 3DS from Gamestop at midnight tonight.

Who's getting theirs as well?

I tried it at Best Buy and it didn't work the way I expected it to. Maybe it's my eyes since I've heard of it working poorly for certain people, but I was completely disappointed. Also, why the hell are you buying it at launch? It has a terrible launch line up, short battery life, and you can bet that there will be a better and improved version in the near future.

I'm waiting for a second model with battery life that isn't abysmal even if it means not playing Layton as early as I'd like to.

Lighting conditions seem to affect how well the 3D came through when I played it at a pre-launch event that was travelling the country at the time. I do have pretty plumty vision (inherited short sightedness) considering that I'm only 21, yet I can see the 3D effect, but it did take some time for me to get rid of the ghost effect that a lot of the games seem to have a problem with. Battery life is fairly reasonable tbh, since I don't play DS games on atom bomb level brightness and my daily commute isn't that long currently (roughly 35 mins by train with the rest walking to and from campus), so I'll likely be around a charger for 80% of the time I'm playing on it.

It's still a brand new system at the end of the day, however, you really should hang on until christmas at the earliest before buying one since, as you said, the software line-up is the usual rushed ports and cheap tacky crap we usually see in the launch window.

I've been debating about getting one since there has recently been a huge price war in the UK recently (due to there being no fixed retail price for Europeans) and I didn't want to risk missing out on bargains. Then I realized that this same plum will happen at christmas again, but with better games next time around.

I have perfect vision, but I had trouble using the 3D. I only had it in my hands for only a few minutes, but I noticed that I had to really focus to keep the 3D intact. Although, I heard that adjusting the 3D slider makes it easier on the eyes, but I wasn't able to play around with that since it was blocked off, nor did I know on which 3D setting I was playing. As I was focusing I noticed that I wasn't paying attention to the none 3D elements of Pilot Wings so when I tried to look at the background instead of the para-sailing guy, the 3D went out of whack.

I want to get one but I don't plan to get one until later this year. I have no interest with the games that came out with it and like Vaati said there would be a better model down the line anyway.

Except Nintendo kinda said there won't be another model. If there are, it'll be colors or special editions. It won't be like an XL or anything.

Because companies would totally announce that there will be a superior version of their brand new product in the next 1.5-2 years.

I'm already aware of the battery life, and there could be a more improved model in the future. But you never know what the future would bring. I somewhat agree with you on the launch line up, which is why I just got the system. I'm a Nintendo guy, I don't like being behind, GET USE TO IT!

Need I say more?

I'm waiting for Dead & Alive to be released before I try to get the 3DS.

Just found out yesterday it comes out 1 week after World Champ 2011 so I'm a little disturbed now.

Now the question is: Should I bother to go for the 3DS by trading in my 25th Mario Anniv. DSi XL or just wait it out? No telling what else may come out for the 3DS down the line and it's not like the 3DS can't play Pokemon Black/White.

Would anyone be willing to shell out another 30 bucks for this? http://gear.ign.com/.../1154340p1.html

The battery life things kinda sucks, but I'll end up getting a 3DS this weekend anyway, and grabbing a Nyko if the battery life is REALLY hindering my usual game playing routines. I just want to play SSF4 xD

If the 3DS only has 5 hours of battery power, then yeah, I can see me grabbing this. But it really comes down to how much you play outside of your home.

For me, personally, I'm normally not gone for over 5 hours and even if I am, I'm not playing my system for that long anyway so 5 hours of battery life is enough for me. Also, if I were to be gone for like 10-15 hours, I'll bring my plug along with my system with me.

I can see this being an issue for other, more hardcore gamers.

Found something else on the Nyko and it is pretty damn bulky actually.

Spoiler

Meh. I don't really travel much so it really wouldn't matter to me, plus I have older DS games that I play and those don't suck up the battery as much as the 3D stuff does.

Looks like the original DS. Just a little shorter width-length.

I rather not. I like my game system to be as small as possible. More unnecessary bulk that I got to pay for? No thanks.

I played my roommate's today. The D-Pad's position is kind of awkward and my hand felt really cramped when trying to use it. The analog may be better for some games but I can't imagine playing something like The World Ends With You on a 3DS.

The 3D effect is pretty amazing - I played the archery game and was really impressed. I could feel my eyes working harder though and felt sick for about 10 minutes afterward though. I only had the 3D at ~40% but maybe that was too much for me.

I'll probably get one eventually.. There's other stuff I want more though.

I picked up my 3DS on launch.

It's an excellent system, to say the least, and battery life aside this feels like the sleekest Nintendo handheld yet. I highly suggest making buying one a priority, even if you plan on waiting the two years it will take for a new model to be released.

Also: StreetPass is the 3DS killer app.

With each 3DS system you pass (I've passed 11) or 2 Play Coins accumulated, you can unlock a piece of a gorgeous 3D diorama or take them on an RPG-styled quest where you fight ghosts and find hats in for your Mii in treasure chests. This is extremely addictive, and I can only wait until a game like Dragon Quest IX is released for it.

That said, unfortunately developers just didn't have enough time to get solid launch titles out. Eight months a great (commercial) game does not make. I love Street Fighter, but right now I'm waiting on Ocarina and Cave Story in June.

Has anyone else picked one up?

I did last Sunday, upgrading from a DS Lite. Like Crad said before, the system is really sleek and it just feel really comfortable in your hands. The circle pad feels really good, and it really responsive. The 3D effect is really nice, and the best way to describe it is like you're looking into a long box - the dept is really good. The black border things around the screen make the effect pop out more it seems, which is why I believe they didn't make the border around the top screen of the Aqua Blue one the same color as the rest of the system.

Face Raiders is short, but it's amazing. If you use the 3D on this one, it's best played in one of those spinning office chairs. The game can recognize pictures from a TV or computer screen which I wasn't aware of. I just got done blasting Jeff Jones apart.

The Stylus is placed in pretty annoying spot for us right-handed players, and you often have to break the 3D effect to get to it. Left-handed people won't really mind where its at though. Using the D-Pad can be awkward for children and people with small hands, or for anyone who holds the system with the sides of the system touching the inside of their hand. (like this person http://media.photobu...bugee/BB3ds.jpg). I have pretty large hands and long fingers, so the sides of the system aren't as close to my palms, and I can use the D-Pad with no discomfort. The circle pad does work with any older DS games though so that helps.

I have yet to pick up any 3DS game for it though, so I don't know what quite to say about the battery life yet. Whenever I put it down, it goes down on the charging cradle, so I haven't let it get the chance to almost die on me while playing music or older games though.

I've heard something about the Internet Browser letting you view Youtube videos? If that true, then it's another reason late May needs to get faster. If someone can confirm that for me though, that'd be great.
