Keep in mind that Nintendo hasn't made a new IP since Pikmin. Are the HD versions of Zelda, Metroid, and Mario still worth it to you?

isn't the controller the thing with a screen?

I think you're talking about Fluidity.
Rumor is the controller has a screen. Some say it's 1080p, other say it's 3D.

I am hoping that this does do better than the Wii in regards to getting in more of the hardcores. Most of the game line up I had some interest in was mostly just silly casual stuff I never missed when I ditched my Wii.

In my opinion, Nintendo has no choice but to cater to the hardcore. The majority of Wii owners bought the console for Wii Sports, and when a new higher priced Nintendo product comes around, your casual consumer isn't going to shell out three to four-hundred dollars because he/she reminisced about a single weekend of fun. The public is tired of buying DS iterations, and the weak 3DS sales display just that. I expect the same to happen with this Wii sequel. Also, controllers with HD screens already indicate the heavy price factor. I'll make a prediction, the controller will be around one-hundred dollars, console excluded.

The DS is the real victim of shovelware as just looking at a Gamestop wall proves Nintendo's lack of standards as to what they would allow to be published on their systems is something that is hurting them severely. The Wii had its own fair share of this problem but it was hardly in the same proportions to my knowledge. As it stands right now, I see any attempt to try and be the first launch for a new gen as a failure as long as they dont try to reinstate their Seal of Approval level of quality that they required for game releases in the past.
I could see this putting them in the same bad state that Sony is in right now when it comes to the severe loss they will take on putting out an console, especially if they want it to try and overpower the 360 and PS3 in tech specs. Considering how even I agree on the controller being 100+bucks and the system itself being a 300-400 dollar deal on its own, this could end up being the Dreamcast of the modern generation.

Ive been following this like a hawk ever since the first leak.

Controller mock up design.

IGN also does some Q&A

A quote from Miyamoto himself:
Quote
Supposed "leaked" image of the actual system. Developers are saying its fake, but it could just be another mockup design or even what a stripped down version of the console might look like. (aka dev kit version)

Honestly just give me fun games. If you need crazy controll schemes to do that, ok, but Portal blew me away with two sticks and 3 buttons.

I don't really see how these rumours are confirmed, considering how easy it is to fake screenshots and show 'Dev Kits' of a new console in this day and age. I mean what's to say that the pictures shown are actually a Wii dev kit or some other console photoshopped into a powerpoint slide with plumty lighting and a blur filter over the entire thing?
Seriously, why do we still get web cam quality images of stuff like this, when everyone and their mother has a smartphone?!
I will say, however, that I'm not opposed to a new console from Nintendo, but I do believe that we are being very unrealistic about what we will actually get features-wise. Screen based controllers are kind of pointless since Nintendo could just integrate 3DS/DS compatibility into the system if there was the need. I don't believe that we will see a more powerful system than the PS3/360, but I believe that it will be on par with those systems.
Also, Nintendo can't completely rely on the 'hardcore' market anymore, the Gamecube had a great selection of 'hardcore' games, but that market had abandoned Nintendo in the N64 era when the Playstation arrived. The loyalists are still around, but they can't sustain an entirely new console and Nintendo don't have the man power or publisher/developer support to ensure that a supply of hardcore games go to both the 3DS and their new console.

-Real Consoles and 1st place money makers-
NES
SNES
N64/(PS1?)
PS2
And then Wiiiii what? They put nothing into it and made DRILLIONS (millions * x). Can you do that Gizmondo?
It's like Ps3 makes moolah they break even, the game makers eek out another cool game w/last game's sales they worked tirelessly for.
But Wii is an empty cardboard box and they have drillions off of one man making wii carnival waggle.
They are rich and refreshed AND grape US ALL IT'D BE A PS4 MOON LASER BUT STILL NO GAMES AND ONLY PERIPHERALS A DIASTERRRRR AGAINNNNNN
i'm a nintendo fanboy btw

Virtually no actual software was shown, but give me a Zelda of that quality and I'll buy your damn system.
