I'm thinking it needs texture, but then I keep thinking that the sig should be smooth and colorful. I'm stuck, so I posted to see what you guys think. I think it's too simplistic, what am I missing?

I think the sig needs more details and layering.
Especially the left side.

A good basic way to get detail is to start off with a texture in the background instead of just a gradient.
Then you can put a gradient overlay over the texture and erase areas where you do not like the texture.
