Standard's Red decks are gonna be too expensive until Koth goes away. You either play 2 Koth and multiple Opals or you play 4 Koth.

In my day, the most expensive card in a red deck was CHAIN LIGHTNING.

In fact, that's still the most expensive card in any good red deck.

Coming from YGO, all I notice about the price is exactly how much less expensive Magic is in comparison. With the Opals at 18 and Koths at 25, I managed to build this whole deck for under 150$, a far cry from my 320$ Lightsworn deck. And with most of my meta consisting of Jace Control or Third Turn Batterskull, I've got the least expensive deck in the place.

As far as build in general is concerned, I was worried about my land count; in playtesting, 18 has proved more than enough. I'm not sure if this would hold true all of the time, though. Any other thoughts?

Right. Red is expensive right now, but still the least expensive of the competitive decks.

There's not much you can do here besides choosing between 17, 18, or 19 land. Kred is known to be an incredibly inconsistent deck and I think the land count for it is based entirely on the user's comfort zone.
