Storm coming back made me incredibly happy despite playing rogue decks that depends on alot of back row to win. Whats killing me is the three Typhoon.

I didn't like 3 Typhoon at the beginning of the format, but I don't hate it as much as I thought I would. The idea behind it is terrible. Essentially I'm only going to set 1 of my multiple cards to not get punished by Heavy Storm, but instead I get punished by one of three MSTs. I think the reason it hasn't turned out as badly as it should in theory is because one, people generally only run two MST and two, cards like Thunder King, Veiler, and Maxx "C" are very common place and are essentially traps that you cannot MST.

Seems my prime only counts when I use my Monster Mash deck.

That is when you face me at my best because I took a lot of joy building and playing that deck.

I played it a lot last format when the deck is at its weakest (Heavy Storm banned and Oppression at 1) and still won at least 80% of my games. To say that felt good was an understatement.

Outside of that, I'm never at my prime because I'm just not as confident.

I agree that hand traps and beefy cards like Thunder King or floaters like Tengu have helped control how powerful a single Typhoon can be but I'd still like to see it be hit on the next ban list. One would be nice but I'd settle for two. There are always cards like Tornado for people that feel they need more back row removal.

Summon Tengu/Thunder King and set 5 was clearly a skill-based format.

OnTopic: I feel that its possible to have more than 1 prime, or a prime(s) that extends for several years. I feel like Im in my prime right now.

I would also say my prime was during the Tele-DAD format. The reasons are pretty obvious.

I was on Omerta, constantly dueling to gain a reputation as a good duelist. I'm sure it's diminished by now, no one really thinks of "Master" when talking about the good ETC players. We warred a lot and I practiced with Apollo, Ira and James a lot. We also bonded as friends which made it more important. Losing a war game made them look bad by associating with me. I'm just the type of person to care more about my friends than myself, in this regard.

YVD. This is a big deal. Unlike DN, casuals don't use YVD, and if they did I never had to see them. Two YVD players go out of their way to duel eachother and they're not going to waste their time on a scrub. Aside from wars, I dueled RTLD daily. He was one of the best players on ETC and definitely the luckiest son of a bitch I ever played regularly. When you play someone better than you, who constantly god-hands, you see the game in an "elevated way" so to speak. You see combos so often that you know what parts are more important then others and you understand what's worth responding to or not. Sure, solemn was at 3 but a misplayed one could cost you the round. Triple DAD, triple ROTA and a complete destiny engine are no joke.

I played the same deck for the majority of the format. I ran Gladz with teched x3 Kaiser Colosseum. It was both meta and anti-meta and it always caught my opponents off guard. I got to know the deck intimately, I knew its strengths and its weaknesses and used that to my advantage.

I had never taken any YGO breaks so I knew every card in the pool by heart. This made teching, which was more powerful the farther back into the game you go, much more successful.

But mostly, I just cared more. I took a 2 year break after all of my cards were stolen cuz it really broke my spirit. Now, the deck that I like to play isn't really that competitive imo, though I can take most top decks with few worries.

Goat Control, whenever that was. I've never been anything but a horrible player since and it's why I don't play anymore.

Randoms used YVD too, Canti. The difference is, you always had to pick who you played against on YVD, so there was automatically a filter there to make sure you didn't play tards.

DN doesn't have that if you aren't only playing people you know. Because it has it's own system for pairing u players.

The closest I ever had to a "prime" was back when Gravekeeper's first came out. Once I built my GK deck, i absolutely DESTROYED my locals for about 4 months, with a stretch of 28 straight match wins, without a duel loss. It was pretty awesome. Unfortunately, i never got to go to a regional or anything during that time. And due to the fact that I have since moved on from YGO, that was probably the closest i'll ever have to a prime.

08 top 4 sjc and winning indy side event. Wish I never took such a long break after, coming back and seeing how much everyone has improved makes me wonder how good I would be now if I never stopped, but when all your friends quit and you have no local = /

Exactly. It seems a difficult task to stay entertained or focused on growing when you lack a player base or group of friends to hang with.

Been playing since '01. I'd say that (so far), my prime was in 2008 Tele Dad format. Stepped into the competitive scene in '05 when Chaos Phoenix Goat Control format owned all. lol.
